Using the Zoom Classroom

  1. Officers need to set up their account in ZOOM, which is free.  We have a paid subscription so the features of the program and the ROOM is ours.  Please have them set up their name as follows:
First Name: Jim     Last Name: Smith (Enfield)

This way the trainer will see first and last name and department they are with.  Please no ‘screen” names. This is part of our roster system so it needs to be accurate.  Because we have the registration there is no need for the officer to put his/her POST ID# in his/her screen name.

  2. There will be no recording allowed by students.  The feature will be turned off.
  3. When your officer logs on he/she will be put into a waiting room.  The trainer will open the room when the class is ready to begin.
  4. The officer has the ability to set his/her screen up in different grids.  When the trainer is running a PP or a video, the program will allow for a split screen. Essentially what the officer will see is what is on the trainer’s desktop.
  5. Breaks:  Trainers will give officers breaks just as they would live.
  6. Live Screen.  The officers must be live on screen and asked to not put up a picture or their name as we must monitor them.  We understand that an officer might have to take a phone call or use the restroom. This should be handled the same way it is during regular class and it is okay to turn off the video feature if they do this.  We are saying you cannot have a dead screen for the whole class. We are required to report to POST that your officers were in the class and in order for the trainer to sign off, it is important that we have tracking mechanisms in place to satisfy them.  And trainers might call on a student just as they would in class.
  7. You will receive an invite from Spector Training the week before the course that will give you the link and the password and an updated “TIPS” outline.
  8. Where your officer is while taking the class is entirely up to the agency.  The only requirements from us is that the officer has a computer or lap top that has video and audio capability and a good internet connection.  Where you physically place them is an individual decision of each agency.
