With over 18 years in law enforcement, Matt began his career as a patrol officer with the DeKalb County Police Department in Georgia before transitioning to the Connecticut State Police. He currently serves as a detective with the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad and as a task force officer with the United States Secret Service’s Financial Crimes Task Force. A recipient of five-unit citations, two Outstanding Service Awards, and the 2025 Trooper of the Year Award from the Connecticut District Exchange Club, his career reflects a sustained commitment to excellence in public service.

He co-founded the Connecticut State Police Cryptocurrency Working Group and holds a master’s degree in financial crime investigations from the University of New Haven. His investigative credentials include certifications from Chainalysis, TRM Labs, and Blockchain Intelligence Group, and he holds designation as a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) and Economic Crime Forensic Examiner through the National White Collar Crime Center.

Matt serves on the board of the Connecticut ACAMS Chapter, as a Board Director for the National White Collar Crime Center, and as a board member of Operation Shamrock — a nonprofit at the forefront of combating pig butchering fraud and transnational organized crime. His work has been featured in publications including ACAMS Today, and he has contributed as a source to international investigative reporting.

He has testified before Congress on fraud and financial scams, participated in roundtables with the U.S. House Financial Services Committee, and played a direct role in drafting enacted Connecticut legislation governing cryptocurrency kiosks and anti-money laundering compliance. He regularly speaks at national law enforcement and financial crime conferences, including Chainalysis LINKS and NICE Actimize ENGAGE, and continues to develop and publish original research on emerging financial crime typologies.
